The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Oby Kechere, widely recognised for her role in the 2002 comedy classic Aki na Ukwa.
Her death was confirmed by the Directors Guild of Nigeria, which disclosed that she passed away on April 27, 2026, after a prolonged illness.
In a statement signed by its National President, Uche Agbo, the guild described the late actress as a dedicated professional and a valued member of the organisation, noting that her contributions to the growth of Nollywood, particularly within the Abuja chapter, would not be forgotten.
