In a powerful affirmation of Yoruba storytelling and cultural preservation through cinema, Lateef Adedimeji’s historical epic Lisabi: A Legend Is Born emerged victorious in the keenly contested Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa) category at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) on Saturday.
The film, a vibrant Yoruba-language production directed by Niyi Akinmolayan and produced by Adedimeji alongside his wife Adebimpe Oyebade Adedimeji (popularly known as Mo’Bimpe), chronicles the legendary rise of Lisabi Agbongbo-Akala, the folk hero who led the Egba people against oppression.
